Another obamacare perk

Post by Sir Pun on Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:31 pm

For months we’ve been hearing from both Republicans and Democrats in Washington, D.C. terrified that the implementation of Obamacare would decimate their staffs. Some senators and congressmen talked about a serious “brain drain” in Washington when their staff members leave. Congressman John Larson (D-Conn.), who voted for the health care law, said making the law apply to elected officials and their staffers was “simply not fair.”

The problem stems from the same issue other Americans have with the looming arrival of Obamacare: insurance premiums set to increase for just about everyone in the country. And people whose employers offer “Cadillac” coverage (like Congress and their staffers receive) will be hit harder.

On Thursday, President Barack Obama met with congressional Democrats to discuss the problem, and reportedly told his team that he was “on it.” Friday morning brings many reports that a deal had been struck. Politico reported that the Office of Personnel Management intends to rule that the government may continue to contribute to the health care premiums of lawmakers and their staff.

Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas tweeted his response to the news almost immediately:

The ruling means that despite an amendment that made all members of Congress and their staffs subject to the same law they are imposing on the rest of America, they won’t have to pay for it. Instead, taxpayers will be footing the bill.

Old Wasserman-Shultz said something funny a few months ago. She said that her poor, 6-figure salaried, aides would not be able to afford food on this plan.

Hmph, wonder how she feels about all those who don't have 6-figure salaries.

Nope, that wasn't a stupid remark. Couldn't have been. She has a (D) behind her name and those people say nothing stupid......just listen to the people here and you'll know.

All these "freedom lovers" will be shocked and amazed when we finish converting to a full-fledged oligarchy. They will still blame it on us true freedom lovers. Somehow, someway they will blame us for the upcoming government control.

At first they will welcome it with open arms.

Socialist planners at the turn of the century said as much. Funny we can study history, we can know the game and see the game in play, yet we are crazy and intolerent for pointing it out.

Funny how the 'enemy' used to be liberals.  But these days I contend that Progressivism is far far worse.  And it exists on both sides.

Progressives had a notion of an evolving government and want us to adjust to the times.
Progressives detest the concept of individual natural rights (like property) and find ways to abuse these rights with things like eminent domain.
They detest the Constitution, which places permanent limits on the scope of government.
The Progressives, hate the separation of powers because to them it makes government inefficient, and makes it difficult, if not impossible, to expand the power of government so that it could take on all of the new tasks that Progressives had in mind.

Both progressivism and socialism champion the prerogatives of the state over the prerogatives of the individual.

Many early progressives advocated eugenics, or human engineering, to purge society's gene pool of undesirable traits.  Plannede Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was one of these as was economist John Maynard Keynes.

"I prefer the word 'progressive,' which has a real American meaning, going back to the progressive era at the beginning of the 20th century. I consider myself a modern progressive." - Hillary Clinton
"Tim (Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine) and I share a philosophy," said Obama. "It’s a pragmatic progressive philosophy that was at the heart of my campaign and will be at the heart of this administration."

I tend to look at it as a hive or colony mentality over an individual mentality. You know that in china all land belongs to the state, and you can only lease a property for 70 years. I used to think the american ppl we re smarter than that, but ppl are ppl. Otherwise the same things wouldnt keep happening over and over theoughout history. I think it has a lot more to do with rhetoric and language than ppl realize. The dems are masters of labeling, and framing issues in their terms. The problem is, with a compliant media, conservatives are always left trying to undo popular notions started by the dems.

Compliant media is a good term.  The media drives public discourse whether they want to admit it or not.  If they get behind something, the people will usually follow along like sheep.

I didn't know that abo9ut china but I'm not surprised.  However I have heard that most of Mexico is owned by a handful of powerful families.  Probably the same thing in all of Latin America.
